According to an article at www.jfet.org.uk/JIF/Spring2004/revivekimono.html, "[c]ontemporary yukata are being made with patterns such as camouflage or bold checks and designs like goldfish or flowers using primary colours." Like this one: Ichiroya deals more in vintage goods, so I need to look elsewhere for something like this. Does anyone know of any sites that have men's contemporary yukata that deals with English-speaking customers? Note: I've seen some sites that have "yukata knockoffs" (for lack of a better term) aimed at people looking for novelty gifts. I want an authentic yukata that is made in Japan. Thanks in advance.

Hmm...you might look on ebay under yukata...but I do believe that most of the yukata for men that I have seen are mostly vintage. I do not know if they make contemporary colored yukata for men...they all seem to be more indigo colored ones for the guys. If you just want to look over some brightly-colored yukata here are some sites and seller's (ebayers): www.14ge.com (Japanese site, you'll have to translate it into English, but you can email them and see if they will ship to you) stores.ebay.com/kyotocollectionebay sellers who normally have yukata(as well as accessories): honoka513 basten kyotocollection hope this helps

Kiki,
I don't know if colored yukata are made for men today, but I have one, which is over 30 years old (perhaps the first piece of Japanese clothing I own). I bought it myself __ so it's not second-hand, although you could say its' vintage.
Unlike the women's version, the background is an grey check pattern. Scattered randomly over the body are Danjuro crests (three nested squares) in browns & green. The sleeves are closed off they way they would be for a man's kimono, though I'm uncertain whether the opposite holds true for women's yukata. I suppose the demand is limited, because I've never seen anything close to it since.
