Just some time ago i was able to fullfill my big dream - to have kimono for everyday wear. Well, i do not wear it all the time, but when i go out, i do. Although what i wear is not a traditional kimono. I've made a shorter version of kimono from cotton on my own and also hand-painted it with japanese motifs. I wear it with trousers and tie it with real fukuro obi. Now i got 3 of them - every single hand sewn and hand painted. It was very exciting to have it on for the first time (i'm no japanese, i live in England now) and it was especially funny to see some people with open mouth unable to understand. It is indeed a bit different ^^ But it is my way to follow my heart.. So far i was not seen by real japanese person, who would be more critical about colors, patterns and the messy appearance of me when i put my kimono on in hurry coming back late from iaido training. (people around do not notice the things i'm aware of that japanese person would see straight away) So i try to look tidy in case i meet somebody japanese ^^ I hope to be able to make some photos soon, also of me in real kimono (which is a bit tooooo precious to wear every day ^^ ) I'm not sure how japanese people would react to see such not-normal version of kimono, worn with trousers.. it's not because i don't appreciate the kimono, but this way i can wear it way more often ^__^ How often , do you (other people on message board) wear kimono, and how the people around react? Thank you ~~Kiami (Adela)

I havn't worn mine out yet, I'm perfecting my techniques and stuff, I understand how you feel, that japanese people will raise their eyebrows somewhat,. Liza Dalby (I notice people always quote her) said that to the japanese, foreigners look stupid in kimono.. well I have something to say about that, because as many of you know, she became a geisha for her anthropology degree.. so is she exempt from these apparent judgements, or did she do it and look stupid to japanese? This sort of annoyed me, because I don't want to look stupid to anyone, but of course I don't care that much and I love kimono! is dalby a hypocrite? am I going off topic? I think people should feel free, it is true that kimono is governed by rather strict rules.. but it's cool to be avant garde eh? Wear what looks good! I know that people will stare at me here, they stared at me when I wore a red cardigan ( ) but it's part of the fun !! party on dudes!!!!
